Frequently asked questions

What should I consider before laying down the turf for my lawn?

Preparing and laying a lawn can be time-consuming, so it pays to get it right the first time. You should begin this process up to 2 weeks before you plan to lay your new lawn.

  1. Rip up and remove your existing lawn, including weeds and other debris around the site. This can be dumped as green waste.
  2. Test the soil with a pH kit. If it is unsuitable, strip the topsoil by about 10 centimetres.
  3. Prepare your soil for planting by replacing the stripped soil with a new growing medium suitable for your particular lawn type.
  4. Level the ground as best you can. If your property has poor drainage, consider keeping a gentle slope away from the house.
  5. Now you're ready to roll out your turf. It's important that you keep it well fed and watered in the first few weeks.

If you'd like more tips on laying a new lawn, visit the landscape professionals at All Green. Our friendly staff will be able to advise you on specific care routines for your lawn.

What's the difference between lawn varieties?

Different grasses are cultivated for different environments. Some are lush, fast-growing, and very thirsty, while others are more low maintenance and drought-tolerant. Some prefer full sun, while others will thrive in the shade. It's important to know about the different types of grass before you buy.

All Green stocks a variety of grasses, ready to add a new splash of greenery into your yard:

  • Sir Walter DNA Certified Buffalo handles temperate conditions like frost, drought and heat very well. It can also tolerate shade and will never need placing when cared for properly.
  • Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG is grown in Victoria for local conditions and requires less water and nutrients than other varieties. While it is visually appealing, it grows aggressively and will need to be mowed often.
  • Tif Tuf Grass is highly tolerant to wear, drought, shade, and winter. It's self-repairing and is ideal for high traffic areas and yards home to children and pets.
  • Sir Grange is a newly available lawn solution originally developed for golfing. This exciting variety comes in a beautiful dark green and requires significantly less water, food and mowing than competing varieties.

Visit our lawn nursery to get up and personal with our comprehensive range of grass varieties for sale. Shop in-store or online, and we can deliver directly to you anywhere in Melbourne.

Why should I consider synthetic turf?

Homeowners are beginning to favour low maintenance landscaping solutions over all else. Synthetic grass is a winning solution for people who want to get away from excessive mowing, watering and feeding, allergies, and dirt and mud being tracked through the home.

Synthetic grass has come a long way in recent years. It now looks and feels just like the real thing and is maintained for a fraction of the effort. It's effortless to install and can be maintained with a quick hosing down. It's perfect for many settings, including:

  • Balconies and rooftops
  • Around pool areas
  • Covering children's play areas
  • Home and commercial putting greens
  • Shaded areas or between pavings stones

All Green Nursery & Garden has a dedicated synthetic turf showroom displaying all our wonderful artificial grasses for sale. Feel the difference for yourself, and see just how realistic our synthetic turfs can be. Have some questions? Our staff members are on hand to help you choose the perfect lawn solution for your home.
