Locally grown hedging plants

All Green Nursery & Garden is your local supplier of locally grown plants. We propagate and grow our hedging plants in a dedicated facility outside of Melbourne, ensuring that your new screens are fully prepared for local conditions. These are some of the best tall and low hedging plants in Australia.

We select species and varieties that perform well in Melbourne's temperamental weather and diverse soil composition. Your hedging plants will be frost, heat, and drought-resistant, and will require little maintenance. If you need any tips, tricks, advice, or supplies to aid the planting and maintenance of your hedges, visit us at Hoppers Crossing, or call our customer service team.

We have no minimum orders, so whether it's one gap-filling hedge, or the entire barrier of a property, we'll have you covered. Frequently asked questions

Do you deliver hedge plants?

All Green delivers hedge plants around Melbourne. If you need plants delivered to your home, job site, or business, we can have them to you in just a few days (subject to availability). Visit our delivery page for more information about delivery.

How do I care for my hedges?

Once planted, your hedges will likely grow exponentially over the coming months. Watering, feeding, and pruning are essential actions that you must take to get the strongest growth. Here are some key tips to follow:

  • Prune your young hedge when it reaches full size. This promotes strong new growth all over the plant.
  • When your hedge is looking unruly in the warmer months, prune 5 to 10 centimetres off and reshape to your desire.
  • Reintroduce whatever is pruned off into the soil below your hedge. Decomposition of plant material will aid growth.
  • Fertilise your hedging plants according to instructions in mid-spring and late summer.
  • Manage pests and diseases in your hedges as they arise, to ensure that the whole plant isn't affected.

For more tips and tricks on caring for hedges, visit All Green at Hoppers Crossing. Our horticulturists will be glad to give you all the advice you need.

How do I begin planting hedging?

The hard part about hedge planting is selecting exactly what you want to go where. After you have completed this vital step, you can get started with these:

  1. Plan spacing and dig hole. The closer the plants are together, the faster the hedge will fill out.
  2. Add compost to the hole and insert the plant until the whole hedgerow has been formed.
  3. Fertilise and water your plants in accordance with the instructions for each species and variety.

Depending on which species you have selected, you could be enjoying your new, fully grown hedge in just a few months.

What are some good hedging plants for my Melbourne garden?

At All Green Nursery & Garden, we are always happy to offer our expert advice on what to plant in your yard. Whether it's for privacy, or to create an aesthetic backdrop for colourful flowering plants, there are literally hundreds of hedging options to choose from. Here are some of our favourites that we have covered in detail in a previous article.

  • Lilly Pilly Goodbye Neighbour (Acmena smithii) is an excellent privacy plant that grows rapidly with colourful flowers.
  • Lilly Pilly Backyard Bliss (Syzgium paniculata) is a dense, fast-growing hedge that works well around the edge of a pool area or garden.
  • Mock Orange (Murraya paniculata) boasts delightful white flowers and enjoys sun and moist soils year-round.
  • Sacred Bamboo (Nandina domestica) is not a true bamboo, but tolerates harsh conditions and exhibits an array of colours throughout the seasons.

If you're having trouble deciding what to plant in your yard, get in touch with the team at All Green. Our expert horticulturists and landscapers can offer you plenty of suggestions on screening and hedging.
