Frequently asked questions

What should I consider before planting trees?

Trees are some of the most diverse organisms on the planet. When choosing a tree to plant in your yard or garden, you should do so with a purpose.

Will it provide shade? Will it bear fruit? Is it purely for aesthetics? Answers to these questions will influence your decision, as will the following consideration:

  • Consider the tree's characteristics, like size, shape, and ornamental features.
  • Test your soil conditions and remove any weeds before planting.
  • A tree's mature size will have an impact on its growth potential. Crowded trees suffer, while small trees are often not adequate for shade.
  • The tree must have access to light, water, and soil. Thirsty trees will seek out water in pipes and drains, potentially causing damage.

If you have any questions about particular trees, visit our Hoppers Crossing location. Our onsite horticulturists can offer you expert advice on growing and maintaining your trees.

How do I care for trees after they've been planted?

Once they are planted, trees generally require less maintenance than other plants in your garden. They will require very little in the way of protection from the elements. However, they can still benefit from a bit of maintenance every now and again.

  • Newly planted young trees need to be deeply watered every day for at least two weeks after they are planted.
  • Mulching around the base of the tree can help it to retain its moisture, control weeds, and regulate temperature.
  • Trim minor branches with defects every few months, especially in spring and summer.
  • Be sure to remove the stubs of branches and other dead matter to prevent pests and infections from taking hold.

Can you deliver trees from your nursery to my home or worksite within Melbourne?

What are some popular native trees?

Australia has diverse regions of trees, from the Daintree Rainforest, to the eucalyptus dotted plains of Victoria's coastal areas. Native trees are a popular choice for many reasons. They grow fast and strong, and offer plenty of places for wildlife to enjoy.

Some of our most popular native trees include:

  1. Gum trees, like the Lemon Scented Gum, Flowering Gum, and Sydney Red Gum.
  2. Beautiful flowering trees like the waratah.
  3. Pine trees such as the bunya, Norfolk, and Wollemi.
  4. Subtropical palm trees, like the Bangalow palm.
  5. Drought resistant trees, like the bull banksia.

If you're looking for native trees, visit All Green’s nursery at Hoppers Crossing, in Melbourne’s southwest. Our onsite horticulturists and staff members are waiting to offer you accurate advice on how to grow and care for Australian natives.
